This article details the Surface Preparation and Painting Specification “Standard” of Qiming Casting. This standard is applicable to all wear-resistant parts of Qiming Casting.
General
Generally, Qiming Casting follow the paint supplier’s instructions regarding the method and conditions of coating. Supervision and final inspection shall follow the applicable parts of SS-EN ISO12944-7. Machined surfaces and threaded holes must not be painted and shall be masked properly to prevent damage, paint spatter or overlap prior to any painting of the component.
Surface Preparation
- Rust, sand, mill scale and grease shall be removed by a suitable method. The preparation is normally carried out with shot blasting, according to ISO 8501-1, and conform to preparation grade Sa 2,5.
- Shot-blasted surfaces should have a “medium” surface roughness, as described in SS-ISO8503-2
Protection against corrosion:
The product shall be painted in accordance with SS-EN ISO 12944-5, and shall follow the instructions below:
- Primary Coat (Unless otherwise specified in order)
- Paint type: Zinc Phosphate Primer or an equivalent.
- Dry film thickness: min. 60 μm
- Top coat (Unless otherwise specified in order)
- Paint type: Alkyd Enamel
- Dry film thickness: min. 40 μm
- Standard colour is based on customer inquiry.
Divergent colour is stated on order text, drawing or separate instruction. Otherwise it shall be accordance to section. Minimum total dry film thickness: 100 μm
Inspection
- After each step, the appropriate inspection shall be carried out by the operator to makesure that instructions have been followed and that the correct dry film thickness has been applied.
- This point is only applicable if it is specified in the order. The dry film thickness shall be inspected and tested according to SS-ISO 2808 using magnetic film thickness gauges, dry film thickness gauges and other methods as deemed necessary. The dry film thickness is to be measured at “3 points in every 5m² “. The average thickness shall be more than the minimum thickness and the thickness of the thinnest point among these three points shall be more than 80% of the minimum thickness.
